Trips and Journeys is a bi-monthly online magazine; over 90% freelance written. It is designed to bring entertaining and informative travel articles to the reader, as well as provide an important clip to the writer.

Each month we usually carry four regular features, five departments, and two columns. The headings are general, making it easy for a variety of subject matter to fit within. Features are titled Best, New, Next, and Classic. Departments are Right, More, Special, Outdoor, and Extra. Features usually run between 500-800 words (very conducive for online reading). Right is a photo feature with emphasis on destination contact information, great photos, and is usually 200-400 words in length. More usually runs between 200-500 words, is intended to "buddy" an article in the same issue, and the length of Special, Outdoor, and Extra is flexible. The Smart column can relate to technology, business travel, packing tips, new products, moneysaving ideas, etc. Smart can run from 200-800 words. The Elsewhere column always details a museum and is usually @400 words in length. All articles must be accompanied by at least two original photographs and/or artwork (with the exception of Smart and More). Minimum of nine stories are guaranteed to run in every issue.

We cover travel highlights from the U.S. and Canada only.

We are an upbeat publication, designed to entertain and inform. Focus on a particular feature of a hotel, restaurant, or location travelers might find enjoyable and unique, and target the article to match one of our headings. Critiques are discouraged, as are reviews. We prefer descriptive, structured narratives over articles written in a first person format.

E-queries are accepted only – to info@tripsandjourneys.com Manuscripts and photos will be requested upon acceptance and directions for forwarding will be sent at that time. Response time is within two weeks of query submission. Trips and Journeys pays $20 for feature-length articles, $15 for shorter pieces, and $10 for Smart and More, if unaccompanied by photos. Kill fees of 50% are paid if necessary. We buy nonexclusive electronic rights, allowing writers to market their stories to other publications (both print and online). All published articles will be added to our library.

Trips and Journeys accepts content from previously unpublished authors, previously published work, and simultaneous manuscripts and queries.

Most importantly, we offer recognition. Each writer receives a prominent byline as well as bio notes and photo on our Contributor's page.

If you are a new or experienced writer and need travel clips in order to advance your pursuits, this is a good place for submission. We look forward to hearing from you.
